Savage Model 11 308 youth package

Considering this because it has the accutrigger, a detachable box mag and mainly because I want a short light bolt gun that will put down deer, bear, and maybe even a moose.

Anyone have anything to say about these?

No experience with the Savage but I understand they are accurate, good trigger, and adequate quality.

Before you buy, take a look at the Ruger Gun Site. They come in Left Hand and will do what you are asking of a rifle well. I paid $720 out the door for my LH RGS and am pleased.

I love Savages, but Ruger also makes a "compact" M77 that has a 16.5" barrel. It sounds like that may be something you might consider.

Ruger makes a compact, don't think they come in left handed though. As to the Savage youth, great gun. I have a buddy who bought one for his son in 308 with muzzle break. Extremely accurate, light weight, compact. He has taken many deer with it. Can't think of a gun that would be better for walking through the woods or for hunting from a climber.

Remington 700 youth. Not sure if they produce much in lefty.
I bought a 700 youth in .308 and added a full sized stock creating a "carbine" not cataloged but just what I wanted.
I have 2 Grandsons who will be ready to hunt next fall. At this point, I'm looking for an adaptor to allow me to attach a collapsible AR type stock to an H&R single shot rifle. Simple, safe. cheap, and light.

keep up the ideas fellas

The ruger compact does not come in lefty that I am aware of. I would consider a remmy 700 but I hear they are hit or miss?

Consider Weatherby also

I have a Weatherby Vanguard youth model .223 that I keep in my ranch pickup. It is a great little rifle and the shorter/lighter youth model makes it easy and quick to get into action when I see a varmint. It is synthetic with a blued barrel. I put a Nikon scope with BDC on it and it is a VERY accurate little rifle and contrary to several reviews you might read, it has a really nice trigger on it, although it is not an "accutrigger". Not sure if it comes in lefty version. I also have a model 11 Savage in .22-250 with accutrigger, it too is VERY accurate, but it is a little larger and heavier (not a bull barrel) so I don't like it as a pickup gun. I think the Savage youth would be a great gun for your needs, but take a look at the Vanguard youth also. I like shooting both guns equally well. Found the Weatherby on the new gun "sale" rack at Cabelas. Gun was $300 + $139 for the scope. Both guns are good values, and available in the larger calibers. Good luck.

P.S. I was looking for another Savage when I found the Weatherby! :)
