Well, let's see. Savage $400, Burris rings $50, Tasco scope $100, Harris bipod $65, hard case $50 = $665 so I say you did OK. The Savage 10fp is a very good out of the box shooter, but could use a little trigger work. Some folks don't like the stock, yet others do, your decision. I think you will be very happy with the rifle. Not too sure about the scope, you may want to upgrade that one day. Good shooting.

Sounds a tiny bit on the high side, but not too far. You got charged retail for everything, but you got an excellent gun. My 10FP has a very crisp 4lb trigger with a great clean break. Gets 3/4 MOA.

I for one am a BIG savage fan. My 116 has killed lots of proghorn at ranges up to 325 yards with a tasco 3x9 scope. Those FP rifles (or tactical as they used to call them) are VERY popular in varmint hunting circles. My 116 can shoot .5 at 100 yards off the bench with 3 shots.. let it cool for a minute and you can do it again.

Good shooting, sounds like a pretty good deal.

I'd say that was just about right.

Did you get the 20"or 24" barrel? I have it with the 24" barrel and a Tasco World Class 3-9x50 scope. Shoots three touching holes at 100 yards. I think you'll be happy.

If I may, I'd advise you to try some loading of Sierra's 168-gr MatchKing bullet. I used PMC's to shoot the aforementioned group. Also, get someone to stone the trigger for you to smooth it up a little. I wouldn't adjust it until you shoot it a little, but I suspect that yours (like mine and everyone else's) is probably feels a little gritty right out of the box.

Shoot it, love it!

Thanks Bob, I got the 24" barrel and the tasco 4-12 target scope...Where do you stone the trigger?..I have had it apart and it looks like you may want to stone where the sear and trigger mate...am I correct?...this is my first bolt action rifle..I have had single shot and lever actions as well as semi-autos and I am also an avid pistol shooter, but I am no riflesmith..do you think I should try this ?..Also who sells a good drop in aftermarkiet trigger?..and where can I get a good instruction manual for the savage?...oh almost forgot..
Went to the range today, and after breaking in the barrel..with the first 50 rounds and cleaning between rounds with jb bore paste and hoppes #9 and plenty of patches..I shot one ragged hole groups at 100 yds ..so then I moved to 300 yds and shot 1.5"groups....I think it would have actually done better but a storm was coming up and the wind was gusting about 25 mph straight toward me..
I was using winchester 150 gr. psp factorry ammo..
Any Suggestions guys?..thanks
