Savage Mk II Bolt Concern

So I have a Savage Mark II that I have had for about a year now. I have put a couple thousand rounds through it and it has been great.

Recently, I noticed that on the bottom side of the bolt there is a little piece that it peeling away (see attached pics). I am concerned that this will shorten the life of the rifle and wanted to get your ideas on what could be causing it. Additionally, any suggestions on what to do about it would be great.

Thanks,

Isn't that the notch that stops the bolt from coming out until you want it to? I'd guess thats what happens when you slam a pointy piece of metal against something thousands of times. I had one of those for 11 years and couldn't begin to tell you all the rounds I shot out of it and it always worked for me. I can't really tell though, and I'm no gunsmith. Wish I had mine here to compare.

You know I wanted to help you last night when I read this but I was too tired and lazy to roust from bed and check and take pics and etc. so here is my help now lol:)

Mine looks a lot less worn than yours so possibly its not a fair or helpful comparisons. I don't have that BUT at the end of my examinations , I saw Jusssssst the slightest hint of that possibly forming.... So maybe its simply a matter of time?

Who knows I will just keep shooting away with itand see what happens. I once inquired if there was an "upgraded" bolt/bolt handle combo or something either performance upgraded or appearance upgrading and was told neither.

man my pics wer too large I will tr again. ANyway I told have that lip but my bolt looks real new and shiny compared to your so maybe Ive not shot it enough.

my mk II bv has a little over six hundred rounds through it and it is showing signs of lifting there as well guess i'll be a little less violent about pulling the bolt back in the future. thanks for the information. dave
