Savage Mark II .22LR with Heavy Barrel--good shooter?

Was just in at my favorite shop and they had a like new Savage Mark II with a Heavy Barrel and a Norinco 3X9 scope on the shelf for $135.

That sounds like a bargain.

It's got the grey laminate stock with checkering, the scope is new, and the bull barrel is without any nicks or fading. Here's my question, how straight can a gun this cheap shoot?

Anybody with any experience with one of these?

This is one of those deals where the looks of the gun and the price of the gun just doesn't go hand in hand and my experience has been that if a deal looks to good to be true it usually is.

i won one of these at the Friends of NRA banquet a few years ago with NRA edition on it. you are probably getting a better deal than i did. i probably bought $600 worth of tickets on various things and this is what i walked out with. i took mine to a local smith and he did a trigger job for 25 bucks or so and i can tell you that mine is a tack driver. i put a weaver v9 that i've had for years on mine and when it's time to shoot 22 this is what i take...Dick

I bought my cousin one when he graduated from college and it shoots under 1/2" groups at 30-40yds. We also shot it at 100 a few weeks ago and it was shooting just over a 1" group. It was about 4" low at that range, but it was a nice group. My 10/22 was slightly larger at around 2" at 100yds.

If I could pick one up for that price, I would.

Good luck,
