Savage Hog Hunter .223 Accuracy?

Just wondering if any of you guys that owned this rifle have any pictures of groups with Iron sights at 100 yards. I'd like some using the Steel Cased TulAmmo and some using brass cased American Eagle or something similarly priced. Please feel free to post groupings with any other ammunition type (I.E. Handloads, higher priced ammo, etc.). as all would be appreciated. Thank you!

98+% of shooters will have better groups at 100yds with scopes than with iron sights...

Asking for groups with iron sights has a lot more to do with the shooter than it does the equipment being used.

Are you trying to find out the inherent accuracy of the rifle or how well the shooter can shoot it with irons?

If looking for accuracy of the rifle, I guarantee it shoots better than 99% of people who will shoot it with iron/open sights.

I know me for one, if you give me a rifle with irons and same rifle with a scope, I will shoot groups a lot smaller with the scope than with the irons...

Edit: Oh, and as far as the accuracy of the Hog Hunter in .223, I think you will find it is on par with Most of Savage's other heavy barrel rifles, which is to say, It should be capable of sub-moa groups at 100yds.

Too many factors with iron sights to get a accurate representation of the gun. I have a Savage 223 snow Camo predator rifle that is a tack driver. Its a bit on the heavy side with the heavy barrel but man does it shoot. Excellent performance for price rifle.

I had a .223 Hog Hunter and the first thing I did upon returning from the gun store was to strip the iron sites off and through them away.

The 2nd thing I did was rattle can the green stock to a flat black.

Then I installed a scope.

With 62 gr Black Hills Sub-MOA groups at 100 yrds were the rule with this rifle and not the exception.

Although I liked the rifle, I sold it to a friend who liked it better.

@Mo-Ma:
I have a model 11 hog hunter with a 1-4x leupold, and with remington bulk 55 grain, flat base, soft point bullets, the rifle will easily do 1.5 to 2 inch, 3 shot groups at 100 yards. With a higher power scope, better bullets, some load development, and more deliberate shooting on my part, I would expect the rifle to be capable of 1 moa or less. I could be surprised, but I suspect that the ammunition, which you propose, might not fully utilize the rifle's potential accuracy. I know, just from the vagaries of manufacturing, that there must be a poor shooting savage out there, but I've never found one.

From following your past posts, I know you like to tinker. I tend to think of savage rifles as "project" rifles, and, with a multitude of after market parts, the savage might be your dream rifle. I bought the hog hunter to use as a sort of "poor man's scout rifle". I replaced the flimsy stock with a boyd's laminate. (you will have to open up the barrel channel slightly.) Then installed a steel trigger guard, AAC flash sppressor, a tactical bolt handle, and a 1-4x leupold hog scope with quick detachable mounts. The only thing it lacks is a detachable box magazine. However, if that feature is importatnt to you, bottom metal and magazines are available from different sources. As a side note, the mossberg MVP comes with a detachable box magazine, but I know nothing about its quaity or perormance.
