Savage centerfeed magazine in stockys stock

Hey everyone, after lurking around for about a year spongeing off your ideas, I finally decided to register. For the past 6 months or so, I've been putting together a 7/08 on a savage centerfeed action. I have it in a stocky's tundra deluxe stock but have ran into a problem. I can't use the rifle effectivley because the magazine isn't retained in the stock like it was from the factory. Any of you run into the same problem, if so, how did you remedy the situation?
thanks...Brandon

www.stockysstocks.com does not make stocks, they sell stocks made by a wide variety of companies. I'm not sure which stock your talking about, but it sounds like it was not designed for this rifle. I'd put it back in the factroy stock, at least until I could find out for sure.

I did the same thing with a 223 savage and a stockeys stock , I had no issues it all went back together just like it was in the savage stock. What do you mean it wont stay in?. The clip and all should lock in just like it does in the savage stock. I actually had to sand a very small amout out of mag box to get mine to fit in.

The stock is definitely for this rifle, the action screw spacing is perfect and stockys says it's for the 4.4 centerfeed rifle.

So far tonight, i have dremeled an area above the rear action screw for the retaining L bracket to go and created some shims to keep the magazine from going forward in the mag slot of the stock. Seems to be working for now; however, i'm going to put some bedding compound in to replace the shims as soon as i can get some.

Thanks for the input guys!

did you get the pillars for you stock from them there like 15 bucks but well worth it fit right in and already have the notch in the rear one :D

No didn't know about the pillars. I have never put a set in. I've bedded a few rifles, but only with glass, never used pillars.

I have the exact same stock but for the .223. I had to stack flat washers under the clip until the bolt would catch the rim of the cartridges and not ride over the top. Be sure to fill the clip completely and cycle all the rounds thru to be sure. I also had bedded the L-shaped retainer into place. I've been happy with mine. Good luck with yours.

I'm running into the same problem. On the last round, the bolt sometimes slides over the top of the round before it gets out of the mag. Thanks for the tip Shotz!

Then the clip is not parallel with the bolt carrier. You'll at least need to shim up the front portion of the clip.
