Savage Bolt Actions

Looking for a new rifle. Have been told many positive things about Savages. Are they true? Found a local gun shop with three "non-catalog" rifles: 116GSS in 7mm Mag, 300 ultra mag, and 30-06. They have the weather warrior SS barrels but walnut stocks instead of the lam.wood. Sound like a good purchase? $369? Which caliber does everyone recommend?

I have a sav 110 in 223 that I use on fox and coyote, and I am very happy with it. very accurate, ok trigger, and good price. I might get another one in 30-06.

Bought one of the 111 package deals in 25.06. I don't shoot rifles much but I'm getting 3/4" groups at 100 yds with my handloads.
I adjusted the trigger pull but otherwise it's "out of the box".

Savage 110 in '06. Great gun, in fact it was my go to gun until it walked away one day. Adjusted the trigger and got 1/2" groups at 100 yds with handloads. But if you get one with the plain stock make sure you glass bed it as the recoil lug WILL split the stock after 100 or so rounds. Loved that gun. Cheapest, ugliest gun I had in the cabinet, but it NEVER let me down.

I've got one of the Wally-Mart synthetic stocked 110 package deals in .30-06 (comes with a Simmons 3-9x scope). I think I paid $369 with the scope.

I'm really happy with it. Shoots inexpensive factory Remington Core-Lokt hunting ammo into less than an inch at 100 out of the box. Can't ask for too much more than that from a basic hunting rifle.

Semper fi,
Bruegger out.

Underrated.

The Savage rifles are the Rodney Dangerfields of the rifle world, they make a very decent weapon, and $369 sounds right on wiht the price. They are not the most refined weapons on the market, ie rough action, bad trigger, but you can't beat them for the money. Calbier wise I use 25-06 for everything here OK, good whitetail round, and good varmint round.
