Savage bolt-action...Wasting my money?

Here's my reasoning behind considering a Savage to begin with...They are the only affordable (for me anyway) producer of a left-handed, bolt-action .308 that I can find! I was going to go with the Rem 700 BDL in .270, but I really want to go with the .308 because of ammo cost. Any opinions? I have yet to handle a Savage, but according to the website, they have the features I am looking for (detachable box mag, free-floated barrel, synthetic stock, stainless finish, sling swivels, drilled & tapped)

Your opinions and advice are appreciated.

You will find many hear who agree with you. Children concerns have caused *this* lefty to stick with right-handed turnbolts, or levers.

I also own a Savage Tactical 10FP in 308, and it's a very accurate rifle, so I highly recommend it. I got mine on account of this board's recommendations for a tactical 308, and I'm very happy with it. If you go ahead with a 10FP, you should be able to find one for a little under $400.

You are not wasting your money. Savage rifles are a good buy. My only gripe with them is the trigger. I would have a competent smith install one of the improved aftermarket triggers for the Savage. Beyond that concern, the rifle should serve you well.

I shot one of those short action tactical Savage in 308 few months ago that belongs to a co-worker and it was very accurate rifle. The trigger was pretty heavy and a bit gritty but it still shot under 1" regularly and some were close to 1/2". For about $400 it seems like a winner to me. Same fellow also had a long action Savage in 30-06 that came with a Simmon scope for about $350 at local Walmart and that one shot 1" groups too. Both rifles would shoot even better if triggers were lighter and crisp.
