Savage axis with short barrel

I have a Savage axis youth model that is not currently being used so I thought I would put a full size stock on it and shoot it myself. It has a 19 inch barrel and. 1 in 10 twist. My question is will the short barrel affect what bullet weights it will shoot or am I just going to lose some velocity due to the short barrel? Thanks.

Yep. Just some velocity. Somebody cut an inch off the barrel? Youth's are supposed have 20" barrels. Not that it matters, but look at the crown if it has been.

I bought the gun new for my grandson so I know the barrel hasn't been cut. I forgot about the part of the barrel in the receiver so it is a 20 inch.

FWIW, I have an 18" Ruger Predator 308 and a couple of 22" 308 rifles. The 18" gun is only 60 fps slower than the 22" guns. I think you'll really like the more compact size. The speed you lose is irrelevant, but it will be a little louder than a longer barreled gun.
