Savage Axis Sighted In

Mosin-Marauder

Finally found the time to sight in my Savage at 100 yards today (in .22-250). Last time it hit low and left. I fired 1 shot, went and checked the target, calculated that I needed to move it 6 clicks right and 8 clicks up (the target made it easy I must say). Fired a 2 shot "group" just to assure I was hitting where I wanted to. Measured 1" group. I am running a Tasco 3-9x40 with a two piece base. I shoot Remington High Performance Rifle 55 Grain PSP's. Everything is stock. there was a light wind at times but I waited until there was none to shoot. The trigger on this rifle makes it very hard to be precise. A lot of opportunity for messing up when it takes 30 seconds to make a good trigger press. I don't plan to upgrade anything other than the scope, trigger and maybe the stock in the future. I am very happy with the way this rifle has performed for the money I paid for it.Anyway, thanks for reading, advice and suggestions are always appreciated. Thanks!

Regards,

One tid bit- Pull out trigger, cut 1 1/2 coils off spring. Buff a little bit and enjoy your new trigger job. Have done it to 6 or so Axis now. Works great and drops pull in half

Try 34 gns RL-15 and CCI-BR2 primes with a 53 Gn Serria Match.

As bedlamite said, making sure the rifle is free floated is a great way to improve accuracy. Along with the upgraded trigger, the free float (if it isn't already) will improve accuracy a lot. You were shooting off of a good rest, correct?

I used about 3 sandbags. I was using a regular front rest on top of a sandbag and another regular sandbag as a rear rest. I'd say it's pretty decent for a $275 rifle. Though after I make sure the barrel is floated and I get a better trigger, I am sure I can get sub-MOA. Probably even more after I put a Boyd's stock on it, though that will be a later upgrade.

Yeah that sounds like it would yield some great accuracy. I say you put the better trigger in the gun then make sure the barrel is floated, then try the same setup again. Like you said, I'm almost positive that would yield 1 inch or less groups.

I have a boyds stock and timney trigger on mine. With good ammo it shoots as good as anything. Ball ammo and most 150's shoot like junk out of mine however (308 caliber)
