Savage Axis .308 scope recommendations?

After shooting numerous times, I'm not a fan of the provided Bushnell 3x9x40 scope. For around $150, what scope and rings do you guys recommend? Should I get a new rail? Please be specific and keep in mind that the Axis has a high bolt throw. As this is a deer hunting rifle where my longest shot is no more than 200 yards, I want a 3x9x40 scope.

Thank you very mich everyone!

I have a weaver Classic K6 on mine, that and the K4 can be had for your budget, and IMO are the best you'll get in that price range. I use warne rings for most mounts, my axis has a DNZ mount.

I'd check for used stuff

even politely ask at the gunstore about scopes mounted on used guns

most often they can make more money of them separated

I have not had good luck with new scopes, they are all the same it seems just different brand names

but I am not a rich man so no zeiss and stuff I only have leupolds

+1 on the Nikon Pro Staff. I think Academy has the 3x9 locally here on sale for $150. I currently use weaver rings from Walmart on an Axis that I think I paid $12 for. They work and no complaints yet. DNZs would be nice.

Best deal I know of is the Nitrex TR1 leftovers at Natchezss.
Nikon has the Prostaff 3-9x40 marked down to $120.
Burris has a $50 rebate on their Fullfield II.
Burris Zee rings are good.

I typically use the Leupold bases and rings that can be found for $25 or less. I've used four sets on 4 different rifles and only had an issue with a bad screw paid $0.06 for a new screw. As far as scopes in the $150 range thats easy for me Redfield Revenge 3-9x42. I have 3 of them and they are the clearest glass in that price range I've looked into. I own 2 Nikon Prostaffs and they just aren't as good in low light. The Vortex Crossfire 2 I have is the worst of them all. Plus my Vortex was new in box and after 10 shots I had to send it in for warranty. The only Weaver I have ever looked through was from the 80's and it was not that great.

My vote would be
1. Redfield Revenge 3-9x42
2. Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40
3. Vortex Crossfire 2 3-9x40

I have 3 Nikons. No problems. Academy has them as cheap as anybody else. They will also let you trade up within a reasonable amount of time if you want something else and give you full credit on your original purchase if you keep the box, and packing material perfect. I got a Prostaff and Buckmaster for well below the going prices at the time. I also got a P233 at Gander when they matched an Academy price.

Leupold has a sale at Bass Masters for a 3-9. $199

I can't say enough about their service.

I had Redfield aka Leupold I bashed, the knob they said was mine to pay for, the innards check and fix was theirs.

It came back fixed and no charge for the knob. You can't beat that kind of service.
