Savage axis 2

Did anyone else hear about the axis 2? My gun shop got some in the other day. They sell for 429 I Believe. It's not much more than the first axis but has some upgrades. It comes with the accutrigger and a better scope. I personally liked it and am thinking about picking one up later on this year. Did anyone else see it yet?

I have seen one but not sure how well they will really sell. For not much more coin you can get a 11/111 trophy hunter with a nikon and have the aftemaket goodies to do whatever you want with it.

I feel like improving the magazine design to an actual latch instead of the plastic tab would've been a better upgrade than putting the accutrigger in. At least boyds is making aftermarket stocks for the axis line now.

I saw one at a gun shop. as for upgrades all I saw was the accutrigger and it had a Nikon Prostaff 3x9x40 BDC scope. I "think" the price was $419. I'll check this weekend.

Now THAT I'm 100 percent FOR but I wish they'd make the better mags available for the entire Axis line. The Axis trigger can be make very decent for a couple dollars and a few minutes time. The breaking mag issue is a much bigger deal.

I agree that the magazine latch being made of plastic was an initial concern of mine, but I have about 1,500 rounds through my two Axis rifles (1,250 and 200) and neither magazine is showing any signs of wear.

Has anyone had one snap on them yet?

I can run up to the gun shop today if I get some time. I'll check on the magazine and the release and see if it's still made of plastic (90% sure it is). I don't remember the exact price my shop said they were going to sell for but I'll ask them that as well. I know it's going to be a shooter (it's a savage) and since it comes with a decent scope already I believe it'll be a good investment for a new hunter. My friend really wants one and it'll be her first rifle bigger than a .223. She loves shooting and thinks it's time to step up to a bolt instead of her H&R single shot.

I did find a Steven's 30-06 the other day for 209 tho. I'm trying to convince her to buy it since I'm about to start reloading for my 06, I can load down some rounds for her to practice with and if she ends up not liking it I'll buy it from her! I just can't buy it right now because I am laid off or I would.

I recently bought the savage axis 2 in march. The latch on the magazine is still plastic sadly. It shoulders nicely and feels good. I haven't taken it out to the range yet it's still 40 degrees with 25 mph winds in minisotta. Once I get a chance to take it to the range I'll let you guys know more.

Jay... I've had two plastic tabs break but I must admit the rifle was new to me so I wasn't as careful as I should have been. A quick phone call to Savage had free replacements on their way to me. While I appreciate Savage's excellent customer service in that matter my opinion is the mags shouldn't be so delicate.
