Savage Automatic- John M. Browning Patent 1900

PLS4886

New member
I am looking for information about this shotgun.
It is a 12 gauge manufactured by Savage Arms, based on the Browning 1900, which I believe is called an A5.
Anything would be helpfull, history, replacement parts, webpage with more information, etc..
I would guess and say it is from the sixties and it says it comes from Utica, NY..
It sure would be nice to have some different barrels.
Feels real nice, shoots good, I need to shoot it more to get used to it.
Thanks,
D

The Browning Auto-5, introduced in 1900, was the model for your gun. In fact both Savage and Remington made versions of this gun during the period that Browning was not importing the Belgian-made A-5 into this country.

As for information about your particular shotgun, the following came from the Savage Website (www.savagearms.com):

"Q. Where do I find information on older model Savage products?

A. Savage Arms is no longer able to access historical information on older Savage, Stevens, or Fox firearms. This information may be available through John Callahan who is an independent arms historian and is not an employee of Savage Arms. Mr. Callahan does not provide parts, gun smith services or offer a locator service for firearms or parts. Please send a detailed letter with:

-Your name and address
-A phone number where you can be contacted if necessary
-The model and/or serial number if available
-Any other pertinent information

Mr. Callahan will respond with a letter detailing his services. Send the
letter to:

Q. Are there any reference sources for Savage historical information?

A. Yes, there is a book by Jay Kimmel titled, Savage & Stevens Arms, Collector's History. For more information on where to purchase this book, contact, CoryStevens Publishing, Inc., 15350 NE Sandy Blvd, Portland, OR, 97230, or phone 503-328-9339."

As for parts, etc., you might try Numrich Gun Part Corporation: www.e-gunparts.com

Hope this helps.

Good luck, and good shooting!
