savage arms .308

I was wondering if savage arms makes a good. 308? I have a savage.22 and love it so how is the. 308 in comparison? and what other brands are recommended for a .308?

I love my Remington 700 SPS but that's me. The best idea is not to take someone's word but go to a place where you can "shoulder" the different brands and find the one that fits you best. My Remington .270 kicks 1/2 as much as the Winchester 70 and Ruger 77 that I have shot. I've never shot a Savage so I can't comment on them. (Other then I hate their looks LOL). :D

Careful their warbirdlover. You are stepping on hallowed ground around here. At least you didn't say anything derogatory about the accutrigger.;)

The Savage is a fine rifle. It seems to have gained some sort of cult status around here so I doubt you'll hear anything bad about them. Personally, I prefer the Winchester M70 but they are getting really pricey so my second choice would be the Remington M700 SPS with 26" barrel but, that's just me. Still thinking of buying myself one for Christmas but, I really want to build an AR in either 6.8SPC or 6.5G and can't afford both right now.

I've got a Savage model 11, pre acutrigger and it shoots as good as I can hold it. With the right loads it will shoot sub MOA if I can hold it still.

I wanted a lightweight deer rifle that wouldn't break my bank and it fills the requirement.

I like my model 16 Weather Warrior in .308 just dandy. It's far more accurate than I am, has been totally reliable, and was reasonably priced. Is it the best rifle ever manufactured, ever? No, of course not. But if you are considering buying one, do so with head held high and don't let the fanboys of other marques get you to thinking that you've somehow acquired an inferior rifle.

Savages are shooters.

Csmsss, my daughter bought one of those in 270 win, and she shoots it well.
It is an accurate rifle, and it's made very well.:)

I own three .308's. One is a Rem700 and one is a Savage 11. Both are standard sporter models, nothing fancy, bone stock. I'm hard pressed to tell the difference between the two if accuracy is the only consideration. They're both easily MOA shooters with standard groups hovering around 0.8" at 100 yards.

My youngest son has a Savage 10FLP that is a half-inch shooter. He's got a couple of 300 yard targets that are inside 1.5".

Yes, Savage makes very nice .308s. If I were looking for another, I'd probably get the 10 Precision Carbine and be perfectly happy

Savage 308 FC.Awesome rifle. Can't beat them for accuracy. Get one,you will not be dissapointed. IMHO--There are no other reccomended brands:D

I have a Savage and Remington 308. Both are very accurate and both are very good guns. Flip a coin either works well.

If I had a choice between two equally priced/equipped rifles - one a Savage and the other almost anything else, I'd probably choose the Savage for one primary reason. That is because the Savage can be rebarreled (and therefore re-calibered) by any halfway intelligent person in his own garage.

Well, that just does me no good at all!
