There are two types of Savage actions that you need to be concerned about. Several years ago, Savage abandoned the staggerfeed action and went to what we call a centerfeed action. The center-to-center measurement between the action screws is different. So, first of all, you're going to need to know if you have a staggerfeed or a centerfeed action.
The old staggerfeed action (2nd generation short action) is 4.275" between the action screws. The newer centerfeed action (3rd generation short action) is 4.400" between the action screws.
After you figure out what action length you have, you may or may not need a blind magazine box, spring and follower. The old staggerfeeds would drop right in. I'm not sure about the newer centerfeed actions.
You might be well served by calling Choate and asking them. (800) 972-6390
