Savage 93R17 TR

I just bought it last night at Academy for 389.00. The gun clerk tried to sway me to buy the 93R BVSS with a nice laminate and thumbhole stock for less money but I opted for the TR. Anyway, I was setting it up with the scope-a Bushnell Elite 3X9X40 and a 1" redfield scope rings- but the scope is touching the barrel and the zoom adjustment is also block. What size/height scope ring do you guys normally use? Thanks for any advise/input!!!

Most people who acquire the Savage Rimfire rifles put on what they call a one piece DIP Mount (Diversified Innovative Technologies). Use the following website:

http://www.diproductsinc.com/

The best place to make this purchase is at Joe Bobs Outfitters at this website:

http://www.joeboboutfitters.com/

If you really want to learn about Rimfire Rifles go and browse this website called Rimfire Central Forums:

http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/index.php

You will find that the DIP mount raises the level of the rings so that the scope will not touch the barrel.

High rings perhaps.

I have a Redfield Revolution 3-9x40 on my Marlin XT-17 (heavy bbl.) with "High" rings. It's a comfortable setup. The front bell is about 1/4" off the top of the barrel with good clearance for bolt and zoom ring. Now it's not a Savage, but I think the characteristics (in dimension), are similar.

I would just get the next higher set of rings.
The ring package usually tells you what size of scope will fit.

rail

I bought the 22 version of the same rifle. Ended up putting a rail on it, but cannot recall maker. seems like I did make a post regards same.

maker

Hey

I searched my old post and my rail was made by EGW

EGW web site has good info for correct rail for your rifle, it probable takes a 93 type rail.

I coud not get a 10x-4omm to clear. Buying a rail was cheaper than new rings, and it allowed attatchment of level. The look is right too!!!!!!

Thanks everyone for all of the replies. I did go back to Academy and pick up a set that fits up to a 50mm scope. I got it mounted and looks alright. Now how do you bore sight? Thanks in advance.

Traditional Boresighting

Remove the bolt, look down the bore to put it on target (25yds or so), and dial your scopes windage and elevation to match what you see through the barrel. The Redfield site has a decent instruction with illustration.

If you just center the reticle , you will be on the paper at 25 Yds. . I have never bore sighted my scopes , if it takes a few shots I don't mind , I enjoy shooting ! Looking down the bore will get you on paper too . ;)

Thanks .22jacks and oneoldsap! I did make it to the range last wekend and was able to Zero my rifle.. Looking through the bore and then through the scope while pointing towards the target sure do help. I was able to Zero in 25 rounds, five rounds at a time. Going back this weekend to do some more shooting. I can shoot all day with this rifle.. it's shoots great!!! Thanks again!!
