Savage 93R17 FV safety question

Hello,
Recently picked up my 93R17 FV. Have not shot it yet (getting the funds together for a good optic) but seems like a solid rifle so far. One thing I was curious about though is the safety lever. When going from the "Fire" position to the "Safe" position, the lever moves very smoothly. When going from "Safe" to "Fire" though, the lever seems to "hang up" almost right about in the middle, then with a little more force it snaps forward into the "Fire" position. Is this normal, like an added safety feature so you don't accidentally bump it into the "Fire" position? Or maybe everything is just still stiff from being brand new? Or is there something wrong inside my rifle?

Thanks
-Dan

Savage has a three position safety like the Winchester M70. The front position allows the trigger to release and the bolt to operate. The middle position lets the bolt pull back with the safety on but the trigger will not operate. The far back position locks both the bolt and the trigger.

It will smooth out

Yes, this is normal "for this model". My 93 does the same thing. You can read whatever you want into some of your observation and again, "yes" mine has smoothed out a bit. I get great performance out of my 93 but the safety is not very refined. When you disassemble it, you will understand why. The safety lever is working against a leaf spring. ..... :)

not very refined. = cheap !!! ..

Be Safe !!!
