Savage 93 17 HMR questions

I have that rifle 93-17btv, shoots .500-.750 groups at 100yards with little wind and I do my part, it seems to prefer 20gr Hornady, 17gr will give me about 1.00 at 100.

I have a Mueller 8-32x44 scope super clear edge to edge set it on 24 power when shooting at 100 yards, no doubt more scope then necessary for hunting.

That goes to show you that each rifle differs a little. I have the exact model shown on your link and I love it. Mine prefers Hornady 17 grain over the 20. With no wind, I can produce .500 ish 5 round groups at 100 yards from a bench. I'm currently running a Meuller 4.5 - 14 x 40 and I wouldn't change a thing about the setup. Savage is becoming one of my favorite rifle makers and I adore the accutrigger. Smooth pull, crisp break, and factory adjustable down to about 2lbs. My only complaint is I cant seem to find magazines larger than 5 rounds.

I recently tried out Marlins 17 HMR offering and it pales in comparison to the Savage. I dont think you can do better for the money.

Wind is a big factor with the 17hmr, I had guys tell me they do great in wind but perhaps my wind meter is off (;))but I don't do well with the 17 when the wind gets above 12mph.

I have one with a 3-9 scope and have used it to shoot a lot of crows. It was my first rifle and I love it, no kick, and accurate more accurate than me.

Mine is the synthetic stock with the bull barrel and it also prefers the Hornady 20gr. XTP ammo. I put a 10x Bushnell 3200 Elite scope with the target turrents. Less than MOA without a lot of wind, best was just over 1/2 inch. Got it at Dunhams for $139, scope was $190 w/shipping from Optics Planet. Gotta love the accutrigger.

I have that exact rifle. Shoots great, and the wife keeps trying to claim it as hers....I keep reminding her that she got mad when she found it in the closet because I hadn't sold my Marlin 917V to help pay for the Savage yet, so it can't be hers...

I mounted a Simmons 4-16x40 AO scope on mine. It's worked fine for the 3+ years it's been on there. I will eventually upgrade to better/clearer optics but the Simmons is good for now...

The 93r17 is a very accurate rifle. I use mine for p-dogs, out to 175 yds or so. The accu-trigger is absolutely great.
That said, $349 seems high for a used one. Last month, a friend of mine bought that exact rifle, new, for $379.
