Savage 720/Browning A5 action jammed closed

I had a crack in the stock of my Savage 720 fixed. The stock was removed to do it. Now that the stock is replaced, I can't open the chamber. Any Ideas? Anywhere I can look for information?

Many thanks,

Dave

Was the forearm refinished? IIRC the A5 (lord I want one) was a long recoil action and the barrel moved back a ways before unlocking, if it is somehow glued in place.....anyhow, don't mind me, I am not a smith, I am sure a real one will chime in soon though...I just like talking about working on guns..

Is it possible that the person doing the stock work bent the action spring tube? That would tie the gun up pretty well.

If you are talking about the butt stock, it is possible that the person doing the repair got glue or fiberglass into the action spring tube, blocking the spring follower. Another possibility is that he bent or dented the tube in the process of installing the buttstock, or installed some parts the wrong way.

If possible, I would take the gun back and tell the gunsmith what happens and that it appears to have been the result of the stock repair. He should fix the problem free of charge. If you want to try yourself, remove the stock and see if the bolt will operate and you may be able to figure out the problem.
