Any of you guys have any experience with the Stevens 322 and Savage 340 series rifles in 22 Hornet? Tell me the good, bad and ugly. Thanks.

i have my dads 340e hornet. it cost 67 dollars brand new in 1967 lol. the trigger is comparable to a economy 22. it requires a side mount, there are two versions around, one has more space between the rings and helps with eye relief. both require older straight tube, small objective scopes. it had a steel weaver that went bad. i replaced it with a older banner (bushnell). accuracy is on par with a marlin 22mag of today. also the chamber is on the generous side.
....for the older guys a varmint cartridge meant small less noise than a full size deer gun. most definitely not the accuracy desired nowadays. of course the 222 remington changed all of that.....sorry for the book but i wanted you to have a good idea of the gun,,,,,for me it is dearly prized...MY dads gun. bobn

Weaver does make a side mount that fits a 1" tube scope. Ordered it today. I think all the older 22 Hornets, have to be reloaded for, with fire formed cases and neck sized, to get them to shoot right. I do know one guy that has a
340E, and he claims all ammo shoots great out of it. I have found reviews from so-so, to WOW! I bought one out of an estate auction, and have not even laid eyes on it yet. Hope it shoots decent! Thanks!
