savage .338 win/mag problem

I have three savage rifles. Two of them put three touching at 100yds, the third,a .338 win/mag is very inconsistant. When I start out, it ususally groups about an inch or less, then the more I fire(I do let it cool between groupings) it will sometimes group over 2&1/2 to 3&1/2 inches. A steady hold, good trigger control, Swarovski scope and a good rifle rest on a bench. Any suugestions??????????????????????
Thanks for any info.

Has it ever shot well? If so, then something's changed since then.

Let someone else (who's a good marksman) shoot it. If it's bad for them, then something's amiss in its construction. Some things to check; loose stock screws, barrel barely touching the fore end (should be clear by at least 1/16th inch), loose barrel nut.

Try cleaning the barrel between strings.

If that doesn't work try checking the torque on the action bolts.

If that doesn't help try checking the torque on the rings, and base.

If that doesn't help try different ammo.

If that doesn't help, only shoot one group every range trip. After all, how many times do your really need to shoot a 338 Win Mag to kill something?

I had a gorgeous Savage 10 in 7mm-08 and I never could get it to shoot tight groups with any ammo and two scope/mount combos. Trigger was an Accutrigger and felt great. Tried a different stock. It just never would shoot for me.

My daughter has an Axis .223 that shoots great. I think sometimes you just get a lemon.

Sounds like a bedding issue to me, probably with the barrel touching the forearm

I'd glass bed it, float the barrel, and check all the screws

I like your response "How many times do you need to shoot to kill something with a .338?"
Thanks

fairview mick, I really hope that made you chuckle.

I'm a recoil wimp, so the old hunter's wisdom, "I only need to pull the trigger once" would definitely apply to me shooting a 338 Win mag.
