Hey everyone, iam new to the fourm and i was just wondering if anybody had experience with the Savage model 25 lightweight varminter or 12Fv in .204 and which they would prefer for varmint, thanks :D

I chose the 12VLP (woodstock) with heavy barrel in the .204 because of the long string of shooting shot and is not much of a carry firearm. Now if you want a field firearm and shooting is now and then the model 25 is the ticket. One thing to watch for is the stock on the 12fv some of my buddies also have the Fv and they have beded the stock, yes it could just be that particular rifle but I do like the wood and its freefloated as well.

Savage?

Use caution when buying a new savage. Check it from top to bottom and inside and out to make sure everything is as it should be. If it is not exactly the way you like, have the sales people either get another one or refuse to pay for it and walk out. The last Savage I bought was a FV-12, I gave it a quick once over and paid for it. I paid for that mistake big time. At the range I found something wrong with it, hey, it happens. Whoever in QC had thier brain somewhere else, had a bad day and missed it. I went back to the dealer to have it sent back to fix the problem, they called savage. They explained the problem to savage, the Savage person said it wasn't their problem, made a smart-alllack comment and hung up on the dealer.
I really like a couple of my older savage rifles but, I will not buy another new one. I don't know what the savage guys problem was that day, I don't care. I have purchased a couple other brand rifles since then that I am very pleased with. Maybe I owe the smart-alllack Savage employee a thanks. Just be careful.

I find that hard to believe, LGS do not purchase from Savage all their guns are purchased from a distribitor. If they are not an authorized Savage repair center I can understand the reluncance of Savage to deal with them.

Now if you had called directly, I am sure they would have been more than happy with sending you a label to ship the rifle back at their cost and getting it fixed for you the owner.

I've always found Savage customer service to be pleasant, courteous and willing to do what it takes to make me happy.

Are you sure that the dealer was talking to Savage? That doesn't sound like them at all.

I was standing on the public side of the gun store's counter when the employee called Savage. He told them I was standing at the counter, what the problem was, and requested information about sending the rifle back to have it repaired. He repeated what the problem was, that was when the guy got smart and hung up on him.
Why did I go back to the gun store? Two times before when I had problems with new weapons, I went back to the gunstore where I had purchased them. Both times the gunstore people had called the manufacturers(Ruger & Colt). Both times the gunstore took care of the shipping the weapons back to the manufacturer(federal regulations about shipping). Both times the problems were taken care of with Ruger & Colt calling me to make sure I was happy. Then this happened. Oh well, hey they got my money but, they won't get any more.

Model 25

I picked up a Savage model 25 this past summer. I really like it. Factory loads I am under dime size group. I just started to reload and am still under a dime but not as good as factory. I would tell you to go and hold the gun you are looking for. Have fun and good luck.

I should have checked every square inch of that rifle before I purchased it and left the store. Should have had a snap cap with me and dry fired it. Part of the fault is mine. It should have been caught by the people in QC. Shoulda, coulda, & woulda, and twice by great aunt broomhilda. I will fix it myself. Probally in a couple months. I will probally love it even more afterward cause of the money, time, and energy I will have in it. Maybe I do owe that unknown guy a card of thanks.
Remington, savage, whoomever, just be careful & check everything very closely before you walk out the door with it.

thanks for the responses guys, i also like wood stocks, but i have heard that the 25 has little for aftermarket stocks, and the 25 i was looking at is synthetic
