Savage 24V

I just acquired a Savage 24V series D in 222rem over 20 gauge. It's in very nice condition and I was just curious what kind of value you guys would put on it. Thanks for any help.

Depending on the condition and buyer, I'd say between $400 and $600. I'd like to find a .357 one myself. Or a 12 gauge.

Been searching for one in .22 mag over .410. Have seen quite a few over the past few years, but not in my combo. In decent shape, the $400 to $600 is accurate.

I've seen .22 mag with 20 gauge but I haven't seen one with .410 yet.

I'm not a gunsmith or an expert in these guns, I just own one but I would not rechamber it. If you want .223 then trade for one. I think rechambering would hurt the value but these guns aren't exactly worth a bunch.

Back in the mid 60's, I helped my Dad paint our house. As a surprise one day, he came home with two guns: a Model 94 in .30-30 (NIB) and a used Savage 24, .22 over 16 ga., with a scope. He said he bought the Savage for me, but on the way home, he was showing it to a friend that won the Model 94 in a gun drawing, and that guy wanted to trade for the Savage. Dad thought it a good deal, but he said it would be up to me, but since he said he thought it a good deal, I took the Model 94.

Got my first buck with that Model 94 a year later, and the gun is still with me. I continued hunting with either an old single break action 16 ga., or my Savage .22 (also have both of those still!).

Back then, my tastes in guns ran towards the glossy, bolt action styles epitomized by Weatherby and away from traditional looks of lever actions and really away from the strange stacked barrels of the Savage 24. Today, I lust after those guns and if I don't find one local, will resort to Gun Broker or some similar site to get just what I want!

This combo rifle probably wouldn't be shot all that much, so why would you go to the trouble and expense of re-chambering it?
.222 ammo is available and not unduly expensive.

I would live with it !!

Do you guys think it would hurt the value to turn the 222 chamber into a 223 chamber??
You combo, your call but it were mine, I'd keep it as is. Another point is that it will be more desirable if you ever wanted to sell it. I own two of these beauties as well as one 222 and really like shooting that round. It has taken it's share of Coyotes. .....

JMHO and
Be Safe !!!

Just recently a friend of mine picked up a 357max/ 20g-3". I never saw one
before in this cal. I have 24dl I bought new in 60s, 22/20g. I lost interest in
them when they started cheapening them up. Cheap hammer spur selector
and barrels held together with bands. Never saw a newer one that shot worth
a hoot with rifle barrel.

Had a 22lr/ 410 back in the early 60s. Its plastic stock cracked when brought into a heated home from a MN winters cold. No doubt mine. Its 22 barrel showed extremely poor accuracy only because its top barrel had the cheapest/ poorest functioning factory installed rear sight I've ever encountered. Later models of this Savage were much better built I'm sure. (wood stocks)

The selector on the newer models are also better. The old ones are known to fall apart. It's nice to see other 24 fans on this site. If I had to keep only one gun a Savage 24 would be it.

I'd like to find a .357 one myself.

Here is one of mine in .22/20ga and 357.
