Savage 24S Disassembly Question

I bought a Savage 24S at a gun show yesterday. Want to remove the
forend so I can refinish. Diagram shows removing the "forend screw",
which I did. The front of the forend seems loose but the rear end still
seems attached to something. Maybe it's just a friction fit but I don't
want to force it and break something. Is there a special way to "slide
it" off or some other screw/pin that needs to be removed? Any help will
really be appreciated.

Put the screw back. With one hand holding the barrel just ahead of the forearm, pull on the forward end of the forearm to pull it away from the barrel. You're pulling against a spring latch under the forend that hooks onto the metal spur hanging down under the barrel.

Don't pinch your fingers when you snap it back in place. :) Ask me how I know.

Thanks!

Feel pretty silly hearing how simple it is but didn't want to crack the wood.

Thanks John!

Don't feel bad, I had to sit and think about it before I posted. I haven't owned one of those since the '60s and wanted to be sure I wasn't confusing it with all the others I've had that pulled apart the same way.
