Savage 24S .22/410 Questions

I own a Savage 24 Series S, 22LR/410, serial # E100007. I’d like to find out how old it is, what is the significance of it being an S model and its approximate value. It is in excellent condition, probably about 90%.

Also, there is a plastic cover over the release lever, if that is the proper terminology, that is cracked. Can I get a replacement somewhere? The cracked plastic piece is the only real flaw it has.

Thank you,
Greg

The "S" means it is a side-lever (opening lever) model, made 1964-71.

Savage date-coded the bottom of the barrels, up to 1970, with a letter inside a circle.
1964=R, 65=S, 66=T, 67=U, 68=V, 69-W, 70=X

.

Mine doesn't have a plastic cover on the side lever, and I don't think there is one on the schematic on Numrich's website. You might want to take a look at their online schematic though.
