My grandfather has give me his Savage 220 single-shot shotgun. It has no distuishing marks on it other than the branding and 2 3/4 chamber markings. Can anyone give me historical information on this gun? How can I determine the age and value of this gun?

Thanks in advance,

Adam

The basic Savage 220 single-barrel shotgun was made from 1938 to 1965. The 220L was made from 1965 to 1972 and had a side lever opening instead of a top lever. There was also a 220AC which had a Savage adjustable choke and the 220P which had a Poly-choke - these were made at the same time as the 220.

Writting to Savage probably won't do much good as I believe their factory caught fire many years back and a lot of their records were destroyed. But possibly someone here can give you a link or info.

It has the release lever on top. I was guessing that this gun was made in the '30's. Does anyone else have info. on this gun?
