Savage 16FSS in .308?

Looking to purchase a bolt-action for deer hunting and general use on some land my parents just purchased in the Texas hill country. I have never owned a bolt-action rifle (not a centerfire at least).
A friend is selling his Savage model 16FSS in .308 with a Nikon Pro-staff 3-9x40 scope, he said it has the accutrigger as well. I searched the forum and found a lot of great information on Savage rifles in general, but mainly I just see info about the model 10.

My questions:
Is the 16 the same rifle as the 10 but in stainless?
Anyone with experience with the Model 16 have an opinion on quality?
Would this rifle fulfill my needs for hunting medium-large game?
My buddy wants $450 with the scope, it looks to be in great condition, from pricing i've seen online, it appears to be a good deal. Is it?

Thanks.

I'm not sure all the minuscule differences that go into the 10 vs the 12 vs 16 models, but yes, for all intensive purposes they are the same. If you choose to buy any after-market parts, they are interchangeable for the different models. (10 with 12 and 16, but not long action 110)

I don't have experience with this exact model, but you should be getting a great rifle. The accu-trigger is nice and Savages are known for their out of box accuracy.

Yes.

Actually it sounds like a great deal to me.

My only advise is if you haven't already, ask him for a trip to the range with it before you lay down some cash. He's your buddy, he shouldn't be offended. Just a little insurance to make sure it's holding a zero, groups as it should, etc.
