Savage 12 VLP DBM vs 25 LV

Looking at these two in .223 and asking the Savage guys on the forum specifically about the differences in the action design between the two.
Read about both being accurate, having the good Accutrigger design, etc
Though I think the LV is 2 inches shorter and of course lighter, both have the laminate stock.

I'm just wondering if for ex.:
1. is one more durable than the other?
2. At what point (distance) will I miss the extra two inches of the VLP?
3. Any thing peculiar to either design

This is for paper "hunting" and steel pinging at a max 600 yd range.
Thanks

I'd get the 12,it's a lot better made rifle than the 25.Plus,if you ever want to change out barrels/calibers,all you need are a few simple tools.
The action on the 25 is completely different from the 10/12 style.

I have the model 12 i 22-250.It is a very accurate gun. Put 5 shots into just over .750 at 300 yards the other day. Fast twist with 69 grain bullet. You won't be disappointed. ED K

I have a Model 12 BTVS and a 25LV in 223 both are excellent guns, the 12 is heavier by about 2lbs, both shoot under .500 with my reloads when I do my part. The 25 seems less critical and has more accuracy with various powder bullet combinations. Honestly I think it just depends on the money you want to spend and what you use the rifle for. Target only and at longer distance I would opt for the model 12.

I would opt for the model 12 or a model 10. I own the model 12 Long Range Varmint and it shoots way more acurately than I will ever be able to milk it for. With my handloads it will deliver under .75 inch 5 shot groups on my worst days, and one tiny hole if the wind cooperates, and I am not too shaky from caffine.

Thanks!
I'll took a closer look at the 12s.
There's also the 12 BTV..
It doesn't have a detachable mag or a hinged floor plate.
Never had a rifle without either... Nice looking stock though.
So I guess it's down to the 12VLP vs the 12 BTV

The clip on my 12 is very solid and tight. It also feeds really well. One thing i like is to remove the clip and load single shot. If you cycle the bolt slowly it will drop the casing stright down the clip hole. No looking for brass. ED K
