Savage 12 VLP DBM CenterFire .223

Im thinking about buying that model of Savage Centerfire Rifle. Im going to go with .223.Is Savage a good brand of rifle? Im asking because I have been using Remington centerfire rifles most of my life but now they discontinued the .223 caliber Remington 700! :eek:
Would this type of caliber be more economic for the daily shooter than spending 20+ on bigger caliber centerfire rounds such as .270 , .300 , .308 etc? Thanks
 
Hmm , Remington discontinuing 223 Model 700s would be like Chevy dropping Silverado Pickups.:confused:

I have mostly Remingtons but also a Savage 12BVSS in .223. The 12BVSS fouls quickly but has shot some pretty nice groups. A good solid rifle.

The 223 will be a lot more economical to shoot than the larger calibers you mention.
 
Here's my savage model 12 VLP 22-250.. Its in contention for being the most accurate rifle I own... I have no fouling problems with more powder and velocity compared to a .223...

That is a nice looking rifle. I am in the market for a .223 cal Savage and looking at the 12 VLP. It is hard to decide with so many nice .223 varmint models offered by Savage. Any dislikes with yours? is yours a single load or does it have the DBM?
 
I had this rifle for quite a while before finally selling it. It shot well, but not exceptionally. After about a year of missing a centerfire target rifle, I got a Howa 1500 Varminter Supreme, which has proven to be (for me) the better rifle. I handload all the ammo I feed it, to very exacting specs.

That said, I am seriously considering a Savage MKII in .22LR these days.
 
I have this rifle with the clip in 22-250 and it shoots very well. Sub 1 inch at 300 if done correctly. Nice trigger. No more fouling than other rifles i have. I have the fast twist and it shoots 55 or 69 sierras equally well. ED

No dislikes... I really like the rifle and how it performs.. Its the single shot version now discontinued... I didn't see a reason for a detachable magazine...
 
Where did you here that 700's in 223 were discontinued. Nowhere on Remington's website does it say anything and many 223 700's were noted as being available.
