The Savage website shows the LRPV with flutes, do they make this gun with a smooth barrel anymore? The reason I'm asking is because I read on another site where someone recently purchased a new LRPV and to his surprise, it came with a smooth barrel. Bud's also shows the smooth barrel on the LRPV, although it may just be an older picture. I'm still trying to decide between this gun in a 223 or the BVSS, so when I do, I'll probably make my purchase from Bud's.
I see from my reading that the LRPV does have it over the BVSS in terms of accuracy but is it worth the extra money for someone who doesn't reload? I plan to start reloading one day but for now I want a cheap to shoot round for the bench (out to 300yrds) and the occasional hunt. I like the palm swell of the BVSS and in my opinion it looks good too, but I also like the right bolt, left load, eject feature on the LRPV and supposedly it comes with a better action? I wish I can see and handle the LRPV but I can't seem to find one locally. I got to handle a BVSS and I like it, so at this point the BVSS may be the way to go. The CZ527 varmint is also on my list but since most of my shooting will be from the bench, I don't mind the extra 4-5 pound savage 12's.
