Savage 116 Trophy Hunter XP Question

I have a minor question regarding the Savage 116 Trophy Hunter XP in .300 Win Mag thst can be found at Cabelas. I want to upgrade the stock and eventually the barrel to make it more of a target rifle, but I was wondering if the receiver would be stamped "116 Trophy Hunter XP". It's not a big deal I was just wondering, because I would like to build it into a target rifle.

Thanks,

John

In the mean time before I upgrade the barrel, is the barrel it comes with accurate? I know it is a pretty thin barrel so that is why I am wondering. I think it is 0.565 inches thick at the end of the barrel, so that sounds like an ultralight barrel. Any problems with that thin barrel, remember, the barrel is stainless.

Do not make the mistake of confusing barrel thickness with accuracy. They are not necessarily related. Lots of pencil thin barrels shoot fantastic groups. Yes, they will heat up faster than a heavy barrel - just slow down and let it cool between shots.

Thank you Doyle. How thin is 0.565 inches, though? I mean relative to barrels... Is it super thin or can you find thinner? Any ideas of the accuracy I could expect out of this rifle?

Probably better than an average user can shoot. Float the barrel and adjust the trigger, then find out what flavor of ammo that particular barrel likes. Unless you are trying for some kind of competition, it will kill bambi just fine out to the limit of your abilities.
