Savage 111 won't hold zero

The issue isn't with Weaver bases. The issue is with the off-brand cheap bases that savage includes with their rifles. To be clear, these are not 'weaver' brand.

I had 'dealt with' dozens of these rifles. The bases are far too wide. Measure them with calipers and you'll find that they're out of spec. It's literally impossible to slide a set of zee-rings over them. Clamping rings generally work fine.

The solution is to remove them and replace them with something else. Weaver brand bases will work fine.

The real problem is that Savage uses a thread locker on the base screws from the factory and the garbage screws they use are literally too soft to remove them. The heads will strip. I always have to tap into the head to remove them.

The last four Savage rifles I purchased (all within the last three years) had no thread locker on them. In fact, the bases were very loose. The screws weren't tightened down at all.

I have 8 Savages, never had a issue other than Savage action screws come loose. It seems they do not tigghten them very well from the factory. Also on another point- To those that are intrested. I did some exstensive test's on action screws after reading a article on them. I found in all 8 of my Savages it took 35 inch lbs in the rear and 30 in the front. All 8 are tack drivers now, including my cheap old 243 in a axis model.
