Does anyone have one in 223 that can tell me more about it ? pros and cons, accuracy ? Is it good to go right out of the box Or does it need any aftermarket stuff ?
It will be used mainly for paper punching and a few ground hogs and coyotes.

I don't have the Trophy Hunter, but a Stevens 200 in .223 and for the most part I'm betting it's good to go out of the box like my rifle was. My daughter uses it to hunt deer in OK on a regular basis, and shoot prairie dogs with out to around 150-200 yards here in Colorado. My bet is it will be serviceable out of the box, but the beauty of Savage is the upgradeability you'll have with it so of course you'll want to change it up a little as you go along.

Savage is well known for good quality, accurate rifles... though they still suffer from an (unfair IMO) reputation of ugliness.

I wouldn't worry much about what particular cartridge it shoots. They're good guns.

They black plastic stocks are god awful ugly though.... $100 for a Boyd's or $169 for an EABCo pillar bedded and you're golden.

I have to chime in here. I will never buy anything other than Savage. Best, most accurate rifles built. How ever, I did buy a Trophy Hunter in the 22-250. In all honesty,It is the worst shooting Savage I own. I have tried different bullets,Powder and primers. Mess with COL, played with action screws to no end.
It will hold MOA,but that is not really nothing to talk about.
I have given up on it. It will be the one I trade in for my next Savage.
Sorry Not what you wanted to hear, but it is the truth. Now could be just the one I got too.

I have a savage 11 in .308. I can tell you that a 111 is a long action and all of their 3 digit model numbers are. Two digit like my .308 or a model 10, 14, 16, etc. are short action chamberings. If you want a .223 on a long action no worries then.

Mine needed the screws tightened out the box. The action screws along with the scope bases and mounts (an 11 trophy hunter with the Nikon Prostaff) needed snugged as well. The tupperware stock is flimsy and I did some light dremmeling to make sure it is off of the barrel. An aftermarket stock will be in order.

I love the gun. It has averaged a little under MOA through about 300 rounds. Not bad for a gun that was under $500 dollars with the scope. I plan to use it white tail hunting in the fall.

Not sure there Brian- Really eyeballing that Savage 110 BA in a 308. Would maybe consider getting back into FTR Class with that one. I have a 243 already that is very much a shooter. Eveer since I shot that 110 BA in a 338 Lapua, I have not been able to get it off my mind. Man what a sweeeeeeet setup that was. This goes against the norm, bt the kick of that thing was just awesome.
It would be the first Black and Blue shoulder I would love to get over and over and over.:D

I have the trophy hunter 11 XP in 223 (the one that comes with a Nikon scope).

I did not have to do anything in particular with it. It shoots well with a variety of powders and bullets. Not competition class accuracy but very good for the money. The scope is really nice too out to 100 - 200 yards but lack of parallax adjustment makes shooting at 300 a bit of a challenge.
