Savage 110FXP

No doubt some of the more experienced long term lurkers here are quite tired of the Savage threads. I do not have and never have had a bolt action 30-06. Savage has an bewildering array of alphabet letters after the model numbers on their rifles. And no dealer (that I have found) has one of each variation on the rack. Found a few at large gun show today and then visited Walmart. Looks like Wally may have the best deal. Savage 110FXP 30-06 with Bushnell scope mounted for $397 plus state tax of $25.81. Even used similar ones at the pawn shops are no better on price. Is there some coding chart showing what all the letters mean on the Savage? The 110 is the only part of the model number stamped on the rifle. How does one know the exact model without the paperwork/box?
For this amount of money, is there anything significantly better available?
The online auctions have the added cost of shipping and the local FFL fee.

the XP stands for package gun the F for synthetic stock.

so yes there is a code to it you can go to savage arms and find what you want to know or order a catalog and its in the back with the specs.

I thought about buying one of the Savage "cheapos" to build from...
Throw away the stock and the glass ( or sell em), and that's a good price for a barreled action.

For about the same money - you can also pick up a Remington ADL left-over (a discontinued model - but it's still a Remington 700). The Remington will come with a scope that says "made in China" under the scope's caps.
