I've noticed mention on this board of a Savage 10FP
with a 20" barrel. If this is a 20" bull barrel I'd really like to hear from someone who's got one. Savage makes no mention of it
on their website. Any dealer or pricing info would also be appreciated.

Thanks,
rdan

I'd inquire with one or more of your local dealers about that. I know they made them with 20" barrels, because I handled several.

I guess there's the possibility that they discontinued them in the past 12 months, but I also know that the manufacturers don't always list everything they make on their web sites.

Check Gunbroker

Do a search for "Savage 10fp" on www.gunbroker.com.

There are two dealers who are selling 20" versions of the tactical rifle for under $400. They both make a lot of noise about the fact that this bbl length is hard to find.

I'd say if you're looking for a .223, 20" is fine. IN .308, I'd go with the extra bbl. length. That chambering needs all the velocity it can get if you want to shoot long distance.

Hi rdan,
I have the 24" . I was going to get the 20" but I decided to have the longer barrel(like what -YO- said more velocity to reach and touch someone ;) ) . Anyway, You have to go to a gunstore dealer/ FFL holder and have him call or order it for you cause you wont get it anywhere usually other store sells the 24".
GoodLuck,

Thanks Guys,
I'll see what I can find.
As far as barrel length goes I've read that a .308 shooting
150gr. bullets gains almost nothing in velocity over 20".
Also read an article where they cut a 30-06 down from
26" to 18" in two inch intervals. I believe with a 180gr.
bullet the difference between 24" and 20" was less than
80fps. .I'd think since a .308 has less powder but the same
bore it would be even less affected by barrel length.
Am I thinking wrong here?

I just bought a Sav 10 FP in 308, im not positive on the barrel length, its either 22 or 24, its great, nice action, the trigger is not so hot, but it all depends on what ur gonna use it for, it dosent kick at all, nice to shoot, comes witha a soft recoil pad. and a nice little trigger lock brought to you by william clinton him self. its a nice little gun, id suggest it, but if you gonna be hiking with it rethink it cause its a good 8-9 poounds without a scope. have fun
