in south CA, local Turner's having sale savage 10FP for 399$ for .308 or .223,
Any opinion about this gun or price?
thank you

My favorite bolt action. Mine's in .308, but you can't go wrong with a .223 as well. Just feels right. And the money saved went towards a Leupold Vari-X III Tactical 3.5-10x40 LR M1. You get way more than your money's worth.

Do a search on the Savage 10FP on The Firing Line.

This board has a ton of information you will find both useful and capable of helping to make your decision.

I have a 10 FP in .308 and absolutely love it.

I also have a 10FP in .308. Also really like it. Price sounds about right. Ultimate Outdoors has them for $386 but you would have to pay shipping so prices are very close. One consideration: if you plan on tricking this out at all, the Remington 700 would be a better choice as there are many more aftermarket stocks and parts for it than the Savage.

JohnAK:

Scott at www.snipercountry.com has been talking with them about producing a stock for the 10FP. He said recently that HS may be interested but we are looking at lag time as they would have to tool up and produce them.

That sounds about right for that rifle.

I, too, own a 10FP in .308, and I couldn't be happier with it. My only recommendation would be to get the 20" barrel rather than the 24" if it's available. I have the 24", and offhand shooting just isn't a real possibility with it. The 20" version has much better weighting, IMO.

I finally bought Savage 10FP .308,
hew, that rifle is heavier than any rifle I have even with that plastic stock, does bull barrel make that much heavy? Is that added weight any good?
I guess this rifle is definately not for a sniper, How could anyone carry that heavy one all day?
thank you all for your post,

Snipers don't "carry" when stalking; snipers may belly crawl and drag their rifles.

Is that added weight any good?

That extra meat on the barrel reduces barrel distortion and aids in cooling; both contribute to accuracy. The length gives you full powder burn and optimal velocity.

You think the 10FP is heavy off the shelf? Wait until you add a high magnification moonscope with sunshade, sight base, rings, Harris bipod and sling.

It's not uncommon for snipers from around the world to drag around 15-20lbs rifles.

Congratz on the new tactical rifle
I got same one in .308 24" and liked it a lot. Try it out first and then you'll know what you need in upgrading(trigger, stock, etc.)Price is about the same here in my barrio ;)
Happy shooting and keep safe

Check out www.tacticalstocks.com they usually have some McMillan stocks in stock and their prices are pretty good also. If you don't see what you need give the owner a call. He's a nice guy to talk to and can help you.

HS Precision is talking about making one but I'm not sure if it went through yet. A guy at another board was trying to drum up some people who would want one.

Some use the Choate varmint or Ultimate Sniper stock also. I have no personal expierience with it so I can't tell you much about it.

have the 110fp savage in 30-06 and have a choate sniper stock on it it is COOL! you will get used to the weight just shoot shoot shoot.......ghillieman

finally, I got my savage 10FP,
my first impression is
1. it seems barrel is 80 % of the weight of rifle,
2. why bolt feels so light? I have only 2 bolt rifle, yugo M48 mauser, mauser 's bolt feels right amount of heavy, but savage's bolt feels like made in allumium or something,
3. I've read so much about trigger of savage, so I was a little worried, but trigger is better than any other my guns,(well, I have military guns most of them)
now I got to decide which scope to put on, I am leaninng to Tasco SS 10x42, unless I find someone selling good used,
thanks
