I'm interested in a Savage 10FP either a 20 or 24" in .308, no preference since I'll be only shooting at 100yrds, 200 max. When I held the 10 FP at a local dealer, I noticed there's no removable magazine. Is it a fixed mag or is there another version with the detachable mag.

Yes, the Savage 10FP's does not have a detach mag, but it does have a fixed mag. The Savage 10 you seen is the "Scout" model, which a scope can be mounted above the barrel. Any Savage 10FP either in 20" or 24" is fine. If you can get the 24" it is better for accuracy and speed of the bullet. For more information got to their website: http://www.savagearms.com/

I have the opposite advice: Get the 20" barrel. The difference in accuracy and velocity is negligible, but the weight difference of adding an extra 4" of heavy barrel is noticeable. Mine tends to be a little heavy toward the muzzle because of it.

But, it does make three touching holes at 100 yards, so I'll deal with the little extra weight. :D
