Savage 10 predator hunter max 1 opinions

Thinking about this in the .260. It comes with a 24" barrel in this caliber. Would appreciate opinions about this gun or any alternative choices you may have. I will say that i am not sure i would want a shorter barrel.

What do you want to do with it? Hunt, bench gun, or both? I have a friend who has one in 260 Rem. He absolutely loves it. Very accurate out to 1000 yds, which he shoots regularly, but a tad heavy for walking hunting. I have ordered a Weather Warrior left hand in the same caliber, which has a 22" barrel. There won't be much velocity loss between the two, maybe 50-75 fps., and it's two lbs lighter, according to Savage's website.

Have one in .243 win. It's a tack driver. Shoots .5" or less for 3 shots @ 100 yds with its ammo of choice. It is a little heavy, but balances well.

Was considering the .260 rem myself. Since I don't reload rifle I decided on the .243 due to numerous factory loads that are available.

Same as JohnO, I have a Savage 243 (great) and a Savage 270 (also great) never saw the need for a 260, but it too should be good. More choices in 243 or 270.

I bought one in April of this year as a retirement present to myself. It's been 28 years since I had a bolt action centerfire and this gun looked like it had all the features I wanted. I've only shot eight, 5 shot groups out of it at targets since I got it (eight different loads) and all shot between .5 and .7 inch five shot groups at 100 yds. The trigger's very good, everything works perfect, and best of all, it's a tack driver with little or no effort put into developing a load. It seems to like everything I put into it. The only thing negative about it is that after 28 years I found out I just like shooting single shot buffalo guns and muzzle loaders a lot more than the center fires. I have it listed for sale if anyone's looking (on this site).

I can understand a Sharp's rolling block 45-70 (cool) but a muzzle loader???? Been there done that, NO. Centerfires rule!!

Let me clarify the muzzle loader. It's a Savage ML2 using smokeless powder. It's right up there with my Sharps 45-70. Rolling Block? ugh!;)

Now that's interesting, smokeless?? I liked my CVA mag but got rid of it, too heavy, but a really nice inline I scoped (great shooter as well).

Not a Sharps fan, eh?

Good luck

Jim, I am a Sharps fan. I just can't get into Rolling Blocks. I just don't like the looks. MY favorite gun is my Sharps 45-70 and if I sell my Savage Pred Max1 Camo I'm putting the money towards an 1885 High Wall in 45-70.

As to the original post, get the Savage Pred Max1 Camo. You won't be sorry if you're looking for a tack driving bolt action center fire rifle.

I've a Savage 16 WW in 260. Most accurate rifle I've ever shot. Shoots .6". With a 24" barrel, you'll get 2900 from 120s, 2850 from 129s, and 2750 from 140s.

The intended purpose of this rifle was questioned and here is my response. The rifle will be used for hunting and bench shooting. When it is used for hunting it will be my daughter's first deer rifle. It's weight was brought up but that will not be an issue because of hunting blinds. Now, when it is a bench gun it will be dad's. I know i could get her a .243 for this but here comes the good part. If i get the .260 i have opened up the reloading world that i have missed out on! I have already convinced the wife that, because of recoil and performance, this is the correct caliber for my daughters (have two) and will have to buy reloading equipment because of the price of ammunition. I know this is sneaky and underhanded on my part, but doing it anyway! Also, if i get the reloading equipment for the .260 i might as well use it to load my .308 and 30-06...there is that sneaky thing again.

Don't even consider the .260 in any configuration unless you're going to reload...there just isn't any selection of commercial ammo available for it, like many of the other wildcat calibers.

It's a great choice, personally my eye has been on the 12 LRP- longer, heavier barrel and HS Precision stock. It's more of a benchrest gun at 2-1/2 pounds heavier.

Sounds good to me, I bought a set of off road tires so I could get a 4X4 to put them on. Makes sense to me. (LOL)

Good luck.

tobnpr, i looked at the lrp hard but figured it would be pushing the envelope too far and reveal my true intentions! Jim243 that is the type of rationale i like! Being married sometimes forces one to improvise in order to get toys for yourself. I guess it works both ways because everything my wife has ever bought was somehow on sale!

i just got a savage 11 long range hunter in 6.5 creedmoor and love it very low recoil and great trigger the L.R.H. come with ajustable cheak piece and muzzel brake :D
