Savage 10 HS Precision or FCP-Sr

So Im looking to pick up a savage rifle and and trying to decide between the 10 FCP HS Precision and the 10 FCP-Sr in 308. I want the 24 inch barrel for shooting 1000 yards. Other than the stock and magazine systems are there any difference between the rifles? The FCP-Sr is almost half the price so it just seems like there has got to be something else.

Basically the same rifle. The FCP-SR will have a threaded barrel so you can affix a suppressor or muzzle brake.

The difference in price is basically just the Stock. Go price an HS Precision stock just by itself. Quick search turned up $425.99 from Midway USA...

They have different bolt handles as well, but that doesn't make for a cost difference. I prefer the bolt on the FCP-SR. That is what's on my FP-SR.

I would get the FCP-SR and if you want a different stock later, look at the Choate Tactical for around $220. Full length aluminum bedding block and some other great features.

I would pick a Savage rifle with an internal box magazine unless your use mandates a detachable one with more capacity. Especially if best accuracy is more important than magazine capacity.

Some seem to think so, but I think it's so incrementally small that it's a non issue. 99% of shooters will not be able to tell a difference in accuracy.

I go for the rifle with detachable magazine. It's easier to load/unload the blind mag versions and can still be single fed just like the no-mag versions.

Thanks, does the internal mag somehow lead to better accuracy over the detachable?
It's not that it's "better", but it's more consistant
It just eliminates one variable
Most will never be able to see any difference at all

Exactly what's the difference between better and consistant accuracy?

Test groups could be huge and quite irregular but all about a foot at 100 yards; all very consistant in that regard. If they're small and about an inch at 100 yards and quite regular, wouldn't that be better?

All the detachable magazines use in match grade rifles using them have different zeros acros a batch of them as well as different test group sizes. Magazines that fit their attachments exactly the same across all of them have the smallest test groups all centered on each other; exactly like an internal box magazines

I have a 10FCP HS Precision, it is heavy with the 24 inch barrel. It shoots about 1/2 inch at 200 yards. Minute of red solo cup diameter at 650 yards. I guess that's about 3 inches. I like it. Don't know anything about the other one you mentioned.

I like it enough that I am thinking about getting its big brother in 300 Win Mag.

You already answered that.

That's making an assumption that a particular rifle will be "better" simply due to a fixed magazine.

All it really insures is that it won't change

That's stating a fact that any rifle will be "better" simply due to a fixed magazine. There's less variables in the fit of all its parts relative to each other.

The question was will the accuracy be better.

A rifle with a dectachable magazine could be more accurate, but is subject to change with a different magazine.

Hence, my statement that the fixed magazine is the most "consistant"

Most people wouldn't be able to tell any difference, since records have been set with both styles
