Sauer, the forefather of Sig?

On loan to me for photographic purposes is this little Sauer, chambered in .32 acp.
We have tracked it down to circa 1926, and comes with a neat holster that also has an extra magazine.
I hope you folks enjoy viewing this neat little pistol. :)

Sorry, in my haste to return the gun I clipped a bit of the holster, but you get the idea. :o

Very cool! I love the older guns, and I love 32's. Great find! I have one of their revolvers from the 60's or 70's. The holster resembles a Russian Makarov holster. Do we get a range report?

Range report? Sure, if I ever get the chance to shoot it. I only had it long enough to photograph it, then returned it to it's owner.

The holster looks like a pretty standard "service" type holster, including the extra magazine pouch.

Yep, and dated to 1926, is what makes me think police as opposed to military............but I've been wrong before!:D;)

Neat gun. I don't get where the "forefather of Sig?" is coming from, though...

SIG comes from Schweitzerishe Industrie Gesellshaft (essentially "Swiss Industres Co.). Until fairly recently, Swiss law prohibited SIG from exporting arms.

SIG teamed up with JP Sauer & Sohn of west Germany to make and market their designs, with the guns being marked SIG-Sauer.

Sauer was in business for many decades producing their own guns, before they began making SIG designs.

I don't see the neat old Sauer Vesttaschen Pistole as any kind of ancestor to the SIG arms.

BTW , all German police models will be so marked on the left side with the police acceptance markings.

Sauer is a German company and hardly the forefather of Sig of Switzerland.

Not quite sure where you got that...

Because the name Sig is short for Sig Sauer. Just a guess that the two might have been related. ;)

A closer ancestor to the modern SIG Sauer guns is the Sauer 38H, as described in this Wikipedia article:

Sauer 38H

Notice the decocking lever on the left side? Does it seem familiar?

SIG is not "short" for SIG-Sauer. Both SIG and Sauer existed long before they partnered in making and marketing the pistols sold under the SIG-Sauer trade name. SIG is a Swiss company, and Swiss law prohibits manufacture in Switzerland of military type weapons for commercial export. So SIG partnered with the German J.P. Sauer company to have SIG-designed guns made and sold by the German company.

IIRC, the companies are no longer legally connected, but the name "SIG-Sauer" is used by the U.S. importer and so appears on the guns made in, or made for export to, this country.

OK, I'll buy that.
Thanks to all that replied, but while we're at it, please also note the question mark in the title. That should have been an indicator that I was unsure if this pistol had any ties to SIG, so I didn't get anything anywhere. It was posed as a question in the hope that someone might fill me in about any ties it might have to Sig.
Thanks again.

The last I heard the German "SIG"s were not being exported to the US. There are German guns in the hands of US dealers (and probably SIG US) , but when they're gone that's it, except for the resale market. Unless, the export ban is lifted.

b/t/w I picked up a 1982 Swiss SIG p210 6 a few days ago with original boxes, paperwork and targets. It doesn't look like it has been fired except for the factory firing. I'd been looking for almost two years.

The holster flap and strap look like they have letters and / or a crest. can you tell us what they might be? And are there any other markings on that holster?
