Sand Bags

I need to make or buy some sand bags for use as shooting rests. I don`t like the ones I currently found that can be bought from retailers. They are too big. I am having a hard time trying to find canvas coin or shot bags to buy. Does anyone know where I can buy some canvas coin or shot bags. The canvas bags I found online are too big. I would like to find some that are around 4"x 8" or a little bigger.

I like the idea, but there`s no way I`ll be able to get my wife to stitch them closed and I sure don`t want to spend the time on sewing either.

If you ABSOLUTLY REFUSE to sew then take the request to a seamstress (yes, high end clothiers still employ em for thier tailors) and pay em to spend 15 minutes running a straight seam across some demin.

How did you intend to close up your canvas coin and/or shot bags w/o sewing them anyway?

Let me guess.....prob. not the sewing it yoursellf.....it's the bags LOOKING home made?

No, it`s not that. I don`t mind a bit that they look homemade. If I can get someone to do the stitching, I`ll go for it. As for the canvas bags that are already made, I used to put the sand in plastic bags, tie them off and then put the plastic bags with sand in the canvas bags and tie off again with a plastic tie wrap. Wish I did`nt get rid of them now.

you can go to Walmart in the fabric department and get some heavy duty type of cloth, some Walmarts even have someone there that will sew it up how you want it....if not any alteration shop should do it for only a couple of bucks

my father and i have always used old jean legs too though and they've always works just fine

Making Sand Bags

Go to your local fabric store and get a yard of DUCK CLOTH.
Sand will not filter/come through it.
Your next problem will be to find a pattern for what you intend to make...

As a side note, when not in use at the range the "Jeans leg bags" are usually acting as door stops for me. (some of my cats rub against the doors pushing them closed...:D)

I was given some excess vinyl cloth from a boat cover just last night, I am going to make some new bags.

I use sand blast media for my bags, black diamond if i remember right.

Thick over-sized socks will work. Double 'em up, fill 'em with sand and tie a knot in the end. The blue jeans would be a better, longer lasting solution, but if you want quick and easy, the socks will work. Also, you can use a Zip-Lock bag inside the socks if sand comes through.

Cats...? Plural...? Please tell me they came with the wife and are not in your house by your choice. :p
