Same price..Taurus or Rossi?

Dropped Hammer

Today I decided to see for myself what the deal was with Rossi revos and I discovered that the guns made by Rossi were of decent quality..they had a decent SA trigger and the cylinder locked into the frame fairly well...nothing like my Ruger GP100 but nice all the same...This snub nose Rossi .357 was $249 I also noticed that a taurus snuby .357 was $249...which would you guys purchase considering that both guns were the same price???

For new guns.. they are about the same from what I've seen fit and finish wise(Shooting/reliability, I wouldn't know).. they even use the exact same locking system..

I own a Taurus model 606 (2 inch snubby .357) and it is a great gun. The only complaint thus far is the factory porting. A ported .357 snub nose sure does make a lot of noise. And the blast takes some getting used to. If both are cofigured the same, my vote is definitely for the Taurus. If one is ported and the other is not, go with the unported one.

I would take a Rossi over a Taurus, having owned both. I would take a Smith over either one, having owned about 25 of those. ( A used Ruger revolver is about $275 - $300, and is also a better choice.)

Mark

Well they are basically the same, same warranty etc...

But the Rossi, I think, still has the firing pin attached to the hammer which I like.

I own many S&W K-frames, I'm a big fan. I've owned a couple Taurus snubs. I would actually take a Taurus small framed snub over most of the new S&W offerings (with some exceptions). Similar quality to the new manufacture S&W and the Taurus usually has a nicer trigger than the S&W J-frames. Given that, I'd certainly go Taurus over Rossi (Taurus now owns Rossi, Rossi has basically become the "budget" brand Taurus with slightly lower fit and finish and fewer options).

Rossi is made by Taurus. Even with that said, I chose the Rossi. The only issue I have with Rossi is the difficulty to find accessories (grips, ect.)

I have owned both. I still have the Taurus :D but not the Rossi. I also like Taurus over some SW's as well.

But, There is nothing like a Ruger wheelie.... :D

Fit, finish, trigger pull, price.....all are superior in current production Taurus and small frame snubs compared to current production small frame S&W snubs. Rossi offers good value for the dollar...their new production revolvers are very under rated base on the poor quality of some of Rossi's early revolvers manufatured in the 70's. No way would I spend the extra money on a new current production Smith J frame with the high quality Rossi and Taurus available. Either a Taurus or Rossi should serve you well. Price being equal I probably would give the nod to Taurus. However resale on a used current production S&W J frame will be higher on a comparable Rossi of Taurus on reputation alone ! Just my insignificant .02$.

-regards

The current Rossi's are actually fairly decent guns. I have 461 (2" blued 6 shot .357.) Fit and finish was alot better than i expected from a budget gun. Accuracy is on par with any of my other snubbies. D/A trigger pull is heavy but it smoothed up a little (still kinda heavy) after 500 rounds.

AdamGrier_atc,
I found a pair of Pachmayer grips for my 461 on e-bay. Just look for ones advertised as fitting the small frame Rossi.

taurus

id get a taurus because from me comparing my blue 605 snubbie against a blue j frame smith, the quality now is the the same but cost less than a smith.smith prices are getting to high for what there offering and taurus has a better selection of unusal stuff now thats made with quality and a life time warranty

Crap guess what I just found out....That Taurus was on sale it was the model 617ss...the price jumped back up to $299...So I think I'm going to get the little Rossi...The gun is just going to be my fun gun anyway..I might blast some pond snakes with it..ventilate some paper, and maybe load it with the hottest stuff possible just to see what the recoil would feel like out of a 2 inch barrel..I already have what I consider my nice revolver...My 6" gp100...therefore I don't feel the need to spend 600 on a smith or even more on a colt...I want a cheap revo that I can beat the livin crap out of and not feel bad for doing it...Plus if I beat the crap out of it too much I'll just send it back to have it fixed...Is there anything wrong with that?...

By the way I got to handle a 2" Stainless Rossi again today...and like I said before... The cylinder locks up tight, the timing was on point, the cylinder gap was good, and I liked the ergo's...plus the price was sweet...I'm there dude.. :D

Glock19er I hear what you're saying about Taurus making more unusual stuff..like the triad which shoots 3 different loads, or the raging 30 which shoots..what else the 30 cal carbine round...and who can forget the one chambered for 410 shotshell...I hope these different directions are benefitting them to some extent ...no other gun manufacturer that I can think of would be this bold ...
