Salt drips work.

By placing a cattle salt block inside of a burlap bag, and hanging it about 8 ft above a large rock on the ground, will keep whitetails coming to an area for a Loooooong time. When it rains the salt will disolve a little bit at a time and will drip out the corner of the bag producing a salt spot on the rock below. The block will last all year according on how much rain you get.
I have had one up for the last 3 years, and outside of replacing the burlap bag from rotting,( about once a year) it is very little upkeep.

I started with a pretty flat rock about 3 feet around, and it looks like a big bowl now where the deer have been licking it. Deer that come into it don't stay long, like they will at a feeder, but it gives you a great place for a game camera, without worrying about taking the same picture over and over again.

WBB - you are a wealth of good tips!

That is a great idea about hanging it. Where we deer hunt there are free range cattle that destroy anything left on the ground.

We used to buy the small salt blocks (not the 25 lb. kind) and put them out at different places for the cows. We made it a point to put some where the deer would be sure to find them- like on the way to the stands. We can't hunt over a salt lick or bait here like they do in some states, but we can sure ambush them on their way to and from. SSSSSHHHHHH. CB.
