Sako ???

I was in a gun store this weekend in Phoenix. They had a SAko .308 target rifle unlike any I'd ever seen before. I'm positive about the cartridge. New gun. Very futuristic stock with an oddly shaped forearms not attached to the barrel. Must have been some kind of weight. No idea what model this was. Can not find information on it anywhere. Cost $2000+ Any idea what this was or where I could find information on it?

Sounds like the TRG-22. Nice piece, I was considering one for long range but the website doesn't show the model set up for iron sights like flyer does.

The SAKO web address is http://www.sako.fi I think you may have seen a SAKO TRG which is their military precision rifle.

Another similar rifle is the Tikka 595 which has a wood version of the TRG stock. Much cheaper. I bought one recently. I am still getting things worked out but already have 1 MOA accuracy with good ammo.

Kenneth, does this look like the gun you saw. Mouse Gun has probably got it right with the TRG-22.

Ken,
You sure it was a Sako? It sounds like you're describing the new SIG target/comp rifle.
It's the one with the forearm that looks like a bow, and is semi-hollow between the bottom of the forearm and the barrel channel. Sound like what you saw?

When all else fails, ask?!

Eventually I called Legendary Guns in Phoenix and asked them what the gun was. I wasn't even close to right. It was a Sig Blaser #3 Long Range Sporter model R93. Seems like an awfully long winded name.

I'm told that it comes in 308, 300 Win. Mag. and 338 L. Anyone know anything about this gun or a web page that shows it.

Whoa! That'll freak out the bluing-and-burled-walnut crowd.

I guess that's pretty much the definition of a "free-floating barrel"?

I kinda like it. But then I'm an engineer, and tend to prefer function over form.

Ding-Ding! Bingo! :)

FWIW, it's called a "Blaser R93 LRS2" (LRS, as you already know, is short for "Long Range Sporter")

The rifles are made by a German company called Blaser. (see www.blaser.de) They're imported to North America by SIG Arms - see www.blaserrifles.com.

In any case, from what I understand, the main "ooh-ahh" feature of these rifles beyond the exotic looks is that they're a straight pull action - no crankin' up before drawing back the bolt assembly. Col. Jeff Cooper of combat pistolcraft and Gunsite fame has raved about the Blaser rifles and their unique searless action for the past few years.

For info, see http://www.blaser.de/lrs2-e.htm and also http://www.blaserrifles.com/lrs2.htm

Say, how much did that store want for one of these? I've never had a chance to even see one in person locally. Thanks!

Sorry for the bad linking initially - this freakin' UBB's kinda tricky sometimes! :D

The price was $2360 stripped. They said that by the time you bought accessories, like a scope, etc., it would easily cross $2800.

That kind of puts it in the price league with the McMillian Brothers Tubb rifle.

I have shot the R93 and I can say that its AT LEAST a 1/2MOA rifle. I was skeptical about the action but actually it is pretty sweet and faster to cycle than anything. I would bet ahold of Keisler's and check their prices first. Last time I saw they had the cheapest prices.

Kiesler's doesnt have a website. The number is
1-888-543-7537. Also I would check with a guy named Tracey Blankenship at http://www.gunsamerica.com under the "tactical rifles" section. He has them and all of the accessories.
Keep in mind that there are two versions, the ones you see above are the new ones. The older ones have a slightly different looking stock, and if I remember right the old ones also have a slightly shorter barrel.
Lastly, the quality of the machinework on these rifles is outstanding, all parts are nicely finished and smoooooth.
At least in Europe they care about quality...

Ken,
As far as I know, the other barrels have yet to make it to the states. This was awhile ago so that might have changed now.
Good luck
