I'm looking at a Sako L61R in 7mmRemMag (1977). Rifle is real nice, I was allowed to take it to the range with a box of ammo and it is a very accurate gun. The barrel is not free floating. Does anyone know if this is normal ? I thought that Sako floated their barrels . TIA.

Free floating was not so popular in the 1970's. If the rifle is accurate, I would just shoot it and enjoy it. You can float it easily, but if it ain't broke........

The only caution is to shoot it to confirm zero before you hunt with it.
