Sako .243

A friend of mine offered me his Sako Model 591 in .243 W. I should like to accept his proposal (almost I did !).

I really like the rifle, its very accurate and its finish is superb.

Since I´m a handgun fan and have not great experience with long arms, could you help with your recommendations and knowledge about this rifle?

What VERY GOOD TO EXCELLENT scope (brand, magnification and reticle) do you recommend? I´ll use mainly for shooting at the range and for hunting medium to small animals (distance: no more than 200/250 yards).
I should prefer a fixed scope over a variable one.

Thank you in advance for your help !!!

Fixed power? Nothing wrong with a Weaver K4. Or any of the middle-of-the-line (pricewise) scopes. It's much easier to build a reliable scope in fixed power than variable. The issue is the amount of coatings, which gives better brightness.

Variable? I have a Leupold 2X7 on mine.

(1970s vintage, L579 Sako Forester, 19" barrel. Tack driver. :) )

most all new scopes are variables these days.id buy a good used redfield in 6x.very nice ,bright and 6x is really all the mag you will need.unless your just shooying from a bench, then i sappose all the mag you want as long as you can afford a hi quality one.(a good scope will cost more than your rifle in most cases.

Thank you for your answers, I just call my friend and told him that I accepted his proposal.

The gun is mine. Now I´ll look for a good scope.

Thanks again.
