So who can tell me about them. I think I might want one in 7.62x39. About what do they cost? How hard is it to convert one to use standard AK mags? How accurate are they?

saiga

I have a 223 that has been converted. very nice gun and is more accurate than I am.
They are priced around $600 in this area.

More reading than you can possibly imagine on the Saiga rifle and shotgun.

I had a x39 and 'converted' it. Takes a bit of skill and some common tools to do it right.

Accuracy is a somewhat moot point as it's more of a fun plinker than a marksmanship piece. Expect around 4moa with Wolf steel case.

First I would like to say that the Saiga's are really nice sporter rifles. As far as AK's go they are built really well. Mostly the sights are straight, the scope rails are straight, and they function really well. They can be returned to original pistol grip if you use the proper US parts to maintain a legal US parts count for 922r. They typically need a bullet guide to feed and function with regular mags. In unconverted form they are also quite serviceable. My favorite is the Siaga 308 16" rifle. This can shoot full power 168 grain ammo and is capable of taking any game animal in North America. Likewise you can purchase Remington reduced recoil 125 grain ammo and basically have a souped up 7.62X39. Or you can handload 125 gr. Nosler bullets and load em up fast. The least favorite of mine is the 223 but that just gets to personal preference. Hope this helps

Saiga

Bought mine several yrs ago at Dunhams sporting goods.,$179 plus tax out the door., still have it and plink with it all the time, did convert it to AK style, 223 cal. At the time very few people even looked at them at all and man has the price jumped. Been a real good truck rifle with a red dot on top.

I own a couple of them, they make a great truck gun. I have a 762x39 & 308win Ireally like the 308 it makes a good hog gun. Mine shoots about 2'' moa & its a blast to plink with.Gave 400.00 for mine in a pawn shop shoots everything you put in it but seems to like lighter loads best. I think the twist is about 1in 12 on the 308.IMO they are still a pretty good deal for a semi auto.Never had a FTF OR FTF off any kind.:D

Got my .223 saiga on the second hand market for 299.99 a couple of months ago. It shoots great and is reliable the only problem is the mags for the .223 version pro mag makes some that are hit and miss;other options are extremely pricey. Overall good rifles.

Me and my brother have every model of saiga except the .410.

I like the .308 myself, but I have the .223 and a 7.62x39 conversion. Expect to pay a little more for mags or plan a conversion and bullet guide install.

My 7.62x39 uses plain AK mags. Gun has a bullet guide added and the rear catch altered to allow the mags to lock.

Agreed that they are good shooters. Have owned .223 and 7.62x39; both good, reliable shooters...~3-4MOA with milsurp ammo. You might look at the 5.45x39. Right now, it is cheapest to shoot and plentiful. According to most on the Saiga forum, they will take most milsurp mags, with no alterations needed. Depends on what you want it for. For a hunter the .308 is probably your best bet; but you won't be runnin thru alot of plinkin at the cost.

Thank Ya'll. I'm thinking hard about getting the 7.62X39. I would want it to take AK Mags. Does anyone sell'm already modified?

Arsenal converts Saiga's to their true AK military configuration, complete with the same type of polymer furniture found on the real Russian AK-100 series assult rifles ( the Saiga's are sporterized versions of the AK-100 series). At $750+ they are a bit on the spendy side, but they are about the highest quality AK type rifle you can buy and they are as close as you are going to get to a real deal AK-103. Considering that the lowly WASR's are now bumping $450 on the low end and they aren't that bad if deal for their level of fit and finish.
