Saiga AK "generic" conversions

Atlantic firearms has Saiga AK 47s that are not associated with any particular company... so, they aren't modified by "Arsenal" or "Red Jacket" .

They're $699.

So, are these solid examples of Saiga AKs?

I'm looking to have two AKs and currently have one (underfolder).

Thanks!

Yes, very. Arsenal is generally considered to be about the best (closest to original) AK that you can get in the US.

I've got the SGL-21 in black. It's a great gun. Fit and finish is excellent. Picked up a dozen of the old steel Euro surplus mags from AIM and have never had an issue.

I got mine from Bud's.

Says they're from Izmash... but there are no receiver dimples...

My Saiga didn't have 'dimples' either and it worked just fine. Bought it for $300 back in 2006, converted it a couple months later.

Frankly, that shorter hand guard is a PITA to use. I much preferred the factory Saiga handguard as it covered the entire op rod length. You can do a basic conversion yourself for about $150 in parts.

Careful about the conversions done by Classic Arms et al. Their bullet guide is reported to be glued or tack welded in, not drilled/tapped like I did with mine.

The only reason I sold mine is reloading for x39 is an exercise in futility, so I bought an AR with the funds.

Now that I'm looking at the Arsenals... there is an extra degree of complexity.

There are the side folders... very nice.... but then what's the difference between the SLR-107 FR and the SLR-107-61? They are both side folders.... but with a $16 difference in price.

... so the Polish rifles .... are they solid options, too?

(I'm referring to the rifles offered on Atlantic Fireamrs)

I can't comment on anything other than the Russian Arsenal's... but I can tell you that they build excellent quality guns.

I'm not sure the difference in those particular models that you're looking at, but I know that with the SGL-21's the different numbers indicate different color furniture or length of stock(warsaw or nato)...

SGL-21 61 is the black

SGL-21 71 is the black with nato stock

SGL-21 63 is the olive drab

...and so on...
