Tell your suggestions on magazines to buy and use on a Sagia 223 converted. Not converted yet but will in the future. With 223 it's not as easy as getting some 47 or 74 mags. Is there some good metal ones or just some new plastic ones. I have seen some conversion inserts so they will take Ar mags but I'm not sure on that. Thanks for input.

From everything I have read, the AR mag well conversions work great. Be advised, you will have to add a bullet ramp on the flat shelf just below the chamber opening if you use anything other then the Saiga specific mag. I use SGM Tactical and Sure Fire 30 round mags in my Saiga 223 and have excellent results. They are a bit more costly then AR mags, so you may want to keep that in mind to make a decision.

Lots of good info can be found at saiga-12.com.

I have a saiga 762x39.

The saiga mags insert and lock about 1/8" deeper into the receiver and are also slightly angle upward towards the breech.

The AK mags insert too low and are parallel to the breech. So when chambering a round, the tip of the round hits the backside of the barrel.

Dinzag makes an assortment of feed ramps that remedy the feed issue. Mine was $16.

The next hurdle is the mag locking mechanism. While almost identical, the AK style mag has a thicker locking tab ... or another way of looking at it the Saiga's locking latch is too short.

There is a fix to permenantly alter the gun. I didn't want to do that.

So, the fix for me was to gently grind off a small segment of the locking tab on a $9 poly Tapco 30 round mag.

Has worked flawlessly.
