Safty Disk And dry firing

I just picked up my first handgun tonight a Ruger GP100. I have been dry firing with the yellow safty disk. Have I done any damage? I thought that is why it was in there.

I think Ruger puts them there as a highly visible aid to determine the status of the gun. Smith uses orange disks. I double them up and use em as snap caps. Been using little plastic disks with no incident for over 10 yrs now.

Your Ruger can weather much more than a little bit of dry firing.

I don't think I can double the yellow ones up. For some reason the instructions say do not dry fire with safty disk. I am worried i damaged the firing pin or spring.

The yellow safety disks shipped with Ruger DA revolvers are an easily visible means to determine that the revolver is unloaded. They are not for dry-firing. It's also not possible to double them up.

You probably didn't damage your gun, it's a common error to make and I've yet to hear of anyone who had troubles as a result.

Go your way and sin no more... ;)
